The Confucius Classroom at the Chinese Culture and International Education Exchange Centre (CC at CCIEEC) in South Africa was established on 14 July 2014 and officially launched on 15 April 2015. It is an independent institution co-founded by CCIEEC and the Jiangsu Provincial Educational Department. The centre currently employs 15 staff members, including a foreign director, a Chinese director, and teachers/volunteers sent by Hanban, the Confucius Institute Headquarters.

Key highlights:

  • Offers Chinese language and culture courses in six South African state departments: DIRCO, DTI, DST, SAPS, NDT, and DBE.
  • Runs pilot Chinese language teaching programmes for the Department of Basic Education, teaching in eleven schools across Gauteng Province.
